Trail Mix, Inc is dedicated to the stewardship of Juneau’s trails. We began as a group of hiking enthusiasts in 1993, interested in seeing Juneau’s trails grow and develop. Since then we have grown into one of the largest trail organizations in the state. We work with the city of Juneau, State of Alaska and the United States Forest Service as they are trail property owners.

Trail Mix, Inc.

We have some exciting Trail Mix news! Our Trail Mix crew members, led by woods boss Ryan O'Shaunnesy, have begun the construction of the Paris Creek and Eagle Creek bridges on the Treadwell Ditch trail. Paris Creek is located directly above the town of Douglas; Eagle Creek is two trail miles north of the Dan Moller trail junction.

The concrete abutment footings for both bridges have been excavated and poured. The wood beams, decking and other components for the Paris Creek bridge will be flown in by helicopter and assembled starting on or around the 3rd of July. For safety, we will need to close the Paris Creek bridge area to the public while the helicopter is flying in the components. We will post an update a day or two before the scheduled helicopter operation.

If all goes well the Paris Creek bridge will be finished sometime in mid to late July (we will announce the bridge opening), and the crew will begin building the Eagle Creek bridge shortly after.

The building of these bridges is a major step toward fully renovating the entire 14 mile Treadwell trail all the way from Eaglecrest to Douglas. A big thank you to the CBJ parks and recreation deparment and the CBJ assembly for funding the Paris Creek bridge and associated south Treadwell trail work. And thanks also to the US Forest Service Juneau Ranger District for providing funding for the Eagle Creek bridge, and the replacement of the Kowee Creek bridge just north of the
Dan Moller trail, which will also happen later this season.

You can support this great trail work and all the other trail work our Trail Mix crews do by becoming a member of Trail Mix or renewing your membership (membership link below). Memberships provide a substantial and very important part of our Trail Mix nonprofit funding. You can also donate directly to the full renovation of the Treadwell trail through the Juneau Community Foundation (tax deductible, link below). Thanks so much for your support!

We will keep everyone posted on the continuing work on these bridges and our other Trail Mix projects this summer and fall.

I would love to help out sometime. Not sure if it's the same people but I helped years ago with the trail around Floyd Dryden school for community service and had so much fun!

Great work, thank you

I appreciate that Trail Mix has worked hard over the years to maintain so many of our trails, but they've also managed to turn "trails" into "freeways" and gone over the top with many projects that might have been smaller (perhaps more frequently replaced) fixes. This may not have been one of them, but I'm often on what used to be a trail and am aback by the over-the-top improvements. It's hard to call some of them trails anymore and I consider that a loss not a gain to the area.

Thank you so very much!!!

Jason, glad to hear you are liking the work our volunteer trail crew has been doing on south Treadwell. If you would like to help out sometime, let us know.

PS -- We have plans in the works to build a bench at this location to enjoy the nice view of downtown Juneau and the harbor.
