The mission of Trail Mix, Inc. is to be the steward of a safe and enjoyable Juneau Trail System by bringing people and resources together for trail planning, building, maintenance and activities.
We acknowledge with gratitude that we live, work, and recreate on the lands of the Áak’w Kwáan and T’aaku Kwáan on Dzantikʼi Héeni, part of Lingít Aaní, and near the ancestral home of the X̱aadas and Ts’msyen peoples. We honor the enduring stewardship these Indigenous communities model— rooted in respect, nurture, reciprocity, balance, and harmony with the Tongass. For the relentless care extended to this land, sustaining it since time immemorial, we say thank you and gunalchéesh.
Trail Mix, Inc. was founded in 1993 by volunteers who wanted to care for Juneau’s extensive trail system. Juneau’s trails weave across land owned by local, state, and federal agencies, creating a mosaic of management jurisdictions. This complexity made it clear that the community needed a dedicated, third-party steward to maintain and improve shared trails. What began as a volunteer effort to connect the Treadwell Ditch Trail has grown into a year-round trail organization serving all of Juneau. In 2024, that original dream came full circle when we installed the final 55-foot bridge on Treadwell Ditch Trail, marking the first time the trail was reconnected in over a century and honoring the commitment of the volunteers who started it all.
