Position Summary
Trail Mix Crew Members work as part of a team of 3-4 Crew Members and 1 Crew Leader. Crew primarily work in partnership with the US Forest Service, Alaska State Parks, and the City and Borough of Juneau. Crew Members perform manual labor and work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Crew Members are expected to learn and apply trail building skills, actively participate in training events, practice appropriate safety procedures in all tasks assigned, and use, maintain, and repair hand and power tools as necessary.
Crews work mostly in frontcountry settings. This means crews report to the shop each morning, drive together to their project site, hike to their work site if necessary, and return to the shop at the end of the day. Projects occasionally occur in more remote areas where camping is required which Trail Mix provides a per diem for. While the staff at Trail Mix work to provide consistency throughout the season, personal flexibility is expected and should be prepared for when entering the term as schedules, times, and work locations are subject to change per project needs.
Trail Mix provides uniform shirts, personal protective equipment, and transportation between shop and project sites. Initial training in trail building and maintenance techniques will be supplemented by more training in the field.
Our hiring process consists of a written application with 3 short answer questions of 250 words or less, and for selected candidates, a 20-minute interview that is usually via video conference.
Trail Mix is an equal opportunity employer and maintains a work environment free from discrimination and where employees are treated with dignity and respect.
