Trails Build Alaska is a statewide effort to create a trails workforce development program that will invest in Alaska’s people, land, and economy through American Rescue Plan Act funds. By building a trained trails workforce and better access to public lands, we invest in communities while attracting visitors through outdoor recreation infrastructure. In short, trails are pathways to economic opportunity.

Last year’s programs in Juneau, Sitka, and Anchorage were funded by municipal grants from the federal CARES Act. Now Alaska is about to receive more than $1 billion from the American Rescue Plan Act to aid in recovery efforts. Just $12 million of that put towards a statewide trails workforce development program would employ hundreds of Alaskans and give them the skills and experience to advance their careers.
